DESTINATION WEDDING AT LANGTON HOUSE

Stepping back to a time before ‘lockdown’, I was delighted to fly to Ireland to photograph the wedding of Lauren & James at the Langton House Hotel in Kilkenny. A two-day celebration in the heart of this lively medieval city, it was one of the most fun weddings I’ve shot. Lauren and James were absolute stars on the day, and enjoyed an incredible wedding thanks to Lauren’s months of planning, the love of friends and family in attendance, and the attention to detail from the staff at Langton House Hotel. One thing Kilkenny is not short of, is top quality wedding venues, and the awards on show at the reception desk is a reminder of how highly regarded Langton House Hotel is.

Within close proximity of the majestic Kilkenny Castle, as well as numerous pubs and restaurants, Langton House Hotel – Wedding Dates’ top-rated venue for wedding photography in Kilkenny since 2015, sits in a prime location. Not only that, but it has also been featured in One Fab Day’s 100 Best Wedding Venues in Ireland since 2013. So, if you’re looking for a great wedding venue in Kilkenny, it needs to be shortlisted.

The day began with bridal preparations at Lauren’s parents house in Callan, about 20km from Kilkenny City and were relaxed and disaster free. Dad didn’t realise he had left the house unlocked until 24 hours later, and everyone headed off to the venue blissfully unaware.Oops.

SET THEATRE WEDDING VENUE

Vows were exchanged in the SET theatre, which is such a unique and atmospheric setting. It certainly has the WOW factor. Lauren and James had spent months planning every detail of the wedding, and included a sand ceremony (which I must admit I had to google), in the vows, which was a lovely way of including the children into the ceremony too. Afterwards guests enjoyed drinks in the courtyard and Bridies Bar before heading back into the SET theatre which had been quickly transformed into a function room serving 5 star food. James buried his head in the tablecloth a few times during the Best mans speech before Lauren got hold of the mic and confidently charmed everybody in her own style from the top table. Well played Lauren! The evening celebrations didn’t take long to reach full speed. I’m not sure if the craic was ‘mighty’ ‘savage’ or ‘deadly’ but it continued the next evening as Bridie’s Bar had been booked for the second night. You can’t have enough wedding can you!

NATURAL RELAXED WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Having been a regular visitor to Kilkenny for over 30 years, I have seen Langtons get bigger and more impressive with every visit. It really is a unique place and boasts a great charm. There’s many reasons that Langton House Hotel has ended up multiple times in Ireland’s best wedding venues ever – one of them being the four mind-boggling and charming wedding venues, all nestled under one roof. It really is perfect for wedding photography in Kilkenny, and especially couples who want to celebrate their big day in a unique, stylish and somewhat unorthodox way. Lauren and James were after natural and relaxed wedding photography mixed with the usual groups, and were great when it came to the couple’s photos. Totally at ease with other and the camera, which really helps when you have limited time or want to get back to the party.

Bearing an art deco and timelessly chic vibe, Langton House Hotel an incredible space, has served very well over the years for full wedding receptions, private civil ceremonies, second-day celebrations and evening receptions – all with a difference.

Adding to this lovely charm is the Set Theatre attached to the pub/restaurant – the private courtyard here offers guests the perfect venue for relaxing and mingling beneath festoon lighting.

Perhaps, the best thing about Langton House Hotel’s vibe is the undeniably warm, inviting and friendly staff. Of special note is Sean, the amazing wedding coordinator who was rounding this photographer up when I was losing my way in the myriad of rooms and corridors.

I’m not sure we have an equivalent of a Langtons in London, it is surprisingly versatile as well as affordable, and offers everything from huge, weekend-long parties to intimate celebrations. The four fabulous wedding venues here offer something for everyone:

The Set Theatre – Great for civil ceremonies or wedding receptions with a ‘twist’, along with a dedicated private courtyard; with an evening reception capacity of 300, ceremony capacity of 252 and dinner party capacity of 108.

Langton’s Ballroom – A stunning room with ceilings running as high as 20 feet and silk wallpaper hand-painted to perfection; houses a dedicated private bar, offers access to a private conservatory and garden bar, and has a collective capacity of 342 for dinner.

Harry’s Bar – A very romantic and stylish spot to have intimate weddings, with a capacity of 40 for ceremonies and 40 for dinner.

The Garden Room – For those seeking a refined celebration, the bright space here offers a dinner capacity of 200.

Couples get to choose between a mouth-watering four or five-course meal, which can either be in the form of a relaxed, buffet-style dinner or chosen by the couple themselves from the vast array of dishes. For day-after parties, a pig on spit and full BBQ are just some of the options.

Everything about Langton House Hotel exudes style, stunning décor and a warm, inviting vibe.
